This evening we spent some time at the Meyer's home, learning a bit about chickens and bees. The kids had a lot of fun learning about trimming the wings on the chickens so they cannot fly away. (Did you know to only trim one wing, so they are off balanced?) We also identified what we thought were a couple roosters, so we will make a dinner date soon. They are providing the chicken and I will make some homemade noodles for a big pot of chicken (or rooster) noodle soup. Yum Yum!
Jared and Zach were both able to dress in a bee suit and work with the hives a bit. Fresh honey sure is good! The rest of us watched from inside the van! Yep- we are CHICKEN!

Jared takes a turn trimming wings.
It's a bit of a challenge catching those things.....
Mark and Daisy watch the action from outside the pen.
Mollie wants to take this one home, her newest pet.
Melissa even gets a go at trimming the wings with Farmer John and Farmer Johnny!
Look, I caught it!

Zach bravely handles the smoker to calm the bees
Johnny gives us a look (through the window) at what the honey combs look like.
Jared, our fearless martian.
Thank you John, Laurie, Staheli, Johnny and Reed. We had a great evening! Oh, and Laurie, thanks for the chicken lesson. I feel very smart now!
